The Hawthorn Tree is said to represent true love, partnership and commitment, and the Celts often refered to the Hawthorn as "The Marriage Tree".
Wands made from Hawthorn wood were thought to be very powerful and were often used in spells for love and marriage. The blossoms are also reputed to be highly erotic to men.
The Hawthorn Tree was associated with May Day celebrations and was known as the ’May Tree’ or the ’Tree of Fertility’.
It was symbolic of protection and often planted around homes and churches as a protective shield, and is still used as a hedging today. Any site which grows both Hawthorn and its brother Blackthorn is thought to be an enchanted area.
It was also a common practice to attach spriggs of Hawthorn to the cradles of newborn babies to protect against illness and evil spirits.
Hawthorn berries are still used to make jelly and wine.
Tree supplied is 20-40cm tall.

1 Vote(s)
